BOSTON, MA (August 5, 2019) - WERS 88.9FM, New England’s oldest non-commercial radio station, hosts its 70th birthday party on Saturday, November 2 at The Paramount Center, celebrating seven decades of music discovery. Open to the public, the event features headliner Nick Lowe, the legendary British singer, songwriter, and producer, as well as a special opening set with blues singer and songwriter Adia Victoria.
Tickets are available to WERS members beginning on Wednesday, August 7, at 10 a.m., and go on sale to the general public Friday, August 9, at 10 a.m. at the Paramount Center Box Office. Founded in 1949, WERS is a student-run, non-commercial station that operates with the guidance of a professional staff who together produce award-winning programs, that has consistently been cited as the most highly-rated and critically-acclaimed college radio station in the country. In recent years, WERS highlighted hundreds of local acts on “Wicked Local Wednesday,” and produced the Wicked Good Festival on The Boston Common, a free music festival held in the country’s first public park, the Boston Common, that drew an estimated 10,000 attendees. In addition to its current daytime Triple A/Adult Rock format, the station has long served a variety of community groups with block programming ranging from the Jewish Culture and Music program Chagigah on Sunday mornings to Standing Room only which features the best of Broadway, and the Secret Spot, which features urban, R & B and soul music.
