About WERS

Who We Are

Delivering Boston’s most eclectic mix of programming, WERS is your music discovery station

WERS plays the best of Boston. Whether it’s the newest recordings, live local bands, independent artists or obscure classics from your favorite albums, 88.9 FM is your station for musical discovery.

We are a commercial-free, listener-supported station broadcasting from Emerson College to Boston and beyond. WERS is student-run with the guidance of a professional staff, who, together, produce award-winning programs. We have consistently been cited as the mostly highly rated and critically acclaimed college radio station in the country!

WERS has an eclectic block playlist featuring a Triple A (adult album alternative) daytime format and sultry R&B, slow-jam and soul-filled evening programs. We feature more than 20 different musical styles, conduct interesting interviews and offer more live performances than any other station in the region. On weekends, we offer family-friendly shows followed by cultural and spiritual programming. We also feature professionally produced weekday news segments during commuter drive time and the award-winning public affairs show "You Are Here."

Founded by Arthur F. Edes (an Emerson professor of broadcasting and WEEI radio program director) and developed with help from Professor Charles William Dudley, ours was the first non-commercial radio station in New England, in operation since November 1949. We celebrate our venerable past while always looking towards the future of musical exploration.
