WERS 88.9 fm Artist Interview: Akrobatik

One third of The Perceptionists, Akrobatik started in 1998, as he says, "I was doin’ this before it was cool for everybody to do it..." If 8 years in the Boston scene is enough, Akrobatik’s co-production and co-emceing (with such acts as DJ Beatminerz, Illmind, Esoteric, Phonte, and Guru) should be. If that’s not enough, the simple fact that he presents such intelligent social commentary amidst a popular musical scene (at least) that’s growing in power but seems to be dwindling in its emphasis on sincerity and humanity most certainly should be. As he says in "Remind My Soul," "You know we all crumb-snatchers in this land of big cake. So why are we killin’ for the crumbs when there’s so much at stake?...My elders all feel the same, there’s no bravery. We’re supposed to fight for freedom, not just the end of slavery."

So if you want to support the underappreciated Boston hip hop scene, if you can respect intellectual hip hop with an emphasis on lyrical superiority and think for yourself, definitely check out Akrobatik on www.Akrobatik.com or tune in to 88.9@Night, weeknights from 8 PM to midnight.
