WERS 88.9 fm Album Review: Andrea Burns - A Deeper Shade of Red
Andrea Burns’ debut album A Deeper Shade of Red brings together the actress/singer’s two favorite styles of music: musical theatre and songs by 1970’s female singer-songwriters.
The song “A Little Brains, A Little Talent” from the musical Damn Yankees is a standout track, with Burns’ vocals at their jauntiest. On the cover of Joni Mitchell’s song “Chelsea Morning,” she takes the incentive to turn the acoustic folk song into a Broadway standard. Should Mitchell’s music ever be turned into a musical production, Burns is a shoe in for the part.
With the album’s excellent blend of musical genres, Burns brings new life to the songs through her interpretations.
